Mother’s Day…Memory Lane…

As a young child, one of my favorite memories was seeing my grandmother’s ruby and diamond ring on her finger. I would be standing next to her holding tight to her leg and would stare at it when she would rest her hand on my shoulder.
I remember looking at the shape of the baguette rubies, the deep red color and the sparkle of the diamond. It didn’t have large gemstones and it wasn’t expensive, but to me it was the most beautiful ring in the world.
When I was 18 years old, my high school boyfriend and soon to be husband (now known as Jeweler Dave) designed my first engagement ring with a ruby in the center with “shooting star” diamonds (What can I say, it was the 70’s and it was fabulous!).
Even though it was a completely different design than my grandmother’s ring, I felt it was a tribute to her and the bond we shared. That’s one of my favorite things about jewelry. It’s sentimental and keeps memories alive and our loved ones close in our hearts.
